LNP Member for Burleigh, said recent claims of a cut to free mammograms, currently provided by BreastScreen Queensland, were false.

“In fact, under the LNP Government, Queensland Health is currently upgrading seventeen existing mammography units, as well as expanding upon existing services by providing an additional three new units to further regions of the State.” Mr Hart said

“Such improvements to mammography services are part of a $26 million plan to improve Queenslander’s access to such services.”

Mr Hart said BreastScreen Queensland (BSQ) services would continue to be delivered locally by Hospital and Health Services [HHSs], in accordance with a statewide plan which has been in place for 20yrs.

“Currently there are 31 fixed sites operated by HHSs across the state, in addition mobile services (vans) will also be regionally coordinated and the radiography service and relief radiographers will be managed by the host HHS.

“The women of QLD can be reassured that consistency of quality of BSQ services will be maintained through state level oversight to ensure national cancer screening standards, clinical guidelines and national policies are met.” Mr Hart said.
