State Member for Burleigh Michael Hart will be actively promoting positive attitudes toward women as he leads the White Ribbon Day ‘Oath’ at the Palm Beach Parklands event this weekend.

Mr Hart will join other Gold Coast dignitaries including Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate, Federal Member for McPherson Karen Andrews and the State Member Southport Rob Molhoek as well as representatives from the Gold Coast Suns and other leading community groups in supporting the event.

Mr Hart said, “White Ribbon Day is an important day which marks a line in the sand and says violence in any form against women is not acceptable.”

“This day is not to demean or make men feel negative about themselves, instead, White Ribbon Day acts as a tool to change the attitudes and behaviours associated with men's violence against women so that our little boys grow up to be respectable, confident men who can recognise the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behaviours towards women,” Mr Hart said.

White Ribbon Day will take place at the Palm Beach Parklands and will feature a number of activities and a morning tea.

When: Sunday 25th November, 8:00am to 12:00pm

Where: Palm Beach Parklands

Address: 945 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach, QLD 4221

This year, White Ribbon Day is encouraging men to stand up to violence against women with the knowledge that thousands of good men have got their back. White Ribbon Day wants men to feel reassured that they can make a difference when it comes to stopping violence against women.
Statistics show:

  • Currently in Australia, one woman is killed every week by a current or former partner.
  • One in three women over the age of 15 report physical or sexual violence at some time in their lives.
  • And domestic and family violence is the major cause of homelessness for women and their children.
