Question on Notice No. 288

MR HART asked the Minister for Police and Community Safety (MR DEMPSEY)—

QUESTION:

Will the Minister provide the following listed separated for the last six months, the (a) number of crimes committed and (b) number of crimes solved and/or criminals prosecuted, by separate category, for the Burleigh Electorate?

ANSWER:

I thank the Member for the question.

The Queensland Police Service collates and records crime statistics based on the police administrative boundaries of regions, districts and divisions.

The Burleigh State Electoral District is within the Broadbeach, Palm Beach and Robina police divisions, which are in the South Eastern Police Region.

The Queensland Police Service Annual Statistical Review for 2011-12 will not be available until it is finalised later this year.

I can, however, provide statistics on the total numbers of reported and cleared offences within the three involved police divisions for the six month period from 1 November 2011 to 30 April 2012. These statistics are set out in the attached table.

It is important to note that the number of offences cleared include those that were both reported and cleared in the six month reference period and offences that were cleared in the reference period but reported previously.

The Newman Government has given a four-year commitment to increase police numbers by 1,100 officers (over and above attrition). We have committed to a surge of 300 police in the initial financial year and to delivering 100 of those additional police to the Gold Coast, Coomera and Logan police districts, which comprises the South Eastern Police Region. All of these initial positions will be allocated during the 2012-13 financial year.
