AN ANNIVERSARY NOT TO FORGET
Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP is urging Gold Coasters to mark their calendars and to not forget the infamous scenes that occurred in Broadbeach two years ago this weekend.
“I, like so many others, was horrified at the vision of the Bikie Brawl that was televised nationally across our nightly news after 27 September 2013. While we would all like to forget that this ever happened, we must not forget why our community is now safer than it was on that infamous day,” the Member for Burleigh said.
The Broadbeach Bikie Brawl sparked an unprecedented crackdown on organized crime in Queensland with the introduction of the LNPs successful VLAD laws, which saw criminal clubhouses across the City left vacant.
“We must never forget the stronghold criminal motorcycle gangs had over the Gold Coast prior to the introduction of the VLAD laws,” Mr Hart said.
“But those laws, and our safety is under threat.”
The Palaszczuk Labor Government has set up a taskforce to repeal or replace the suite of tough laws to crack down on crime, including the VLAD legislation.
“The community must send a clear message to the Labor Government that we do not want to roll out the red carpet to bikies and allow them to ‘Run This Town’.”
Mr Hart is urging all concerned residents to sign the online petition calling on the Labor Government to keep the strong VLAD laws and keep the Gold Coast a safe place to live work and raise a family.
