Committee to Hear Coast’s Voice on Taxi Services

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP is advising locals that the Parliamentary Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Committee will be holding a public hearing in relation the Transport Legislation (Taxi Services) Amendment Bill 2015 on the Gold Coast.

“The objective of this Bill introduced by the crossbench seeks to increase certain penalties to deter illegal taxi operators,” Mr Hart said.

“The Committee has received a large volume of submissions from operators, license-holders and particularly users of Uber and this is an opportunity for the community to hear firsthand the evidence being offered to the Committee.”

The public hearing will take place on 7 December 2015 at Crowne Plaza, 2807 Gold Coast Highway, Surfers Paradise and there may be an opportunity for individuals to address the Committee, if time permits.

“I would encourage anyone interested in making a statement at the hearing to register their interest,” Mr Hart said.

Registrations can be made to the Committee’s Secretariat by Wednesday 2 December.
