Fund to support Queensland’s flood affected events

Gold Coast events affected by flooding earlier this year can apply for a share of funding from the Newman Government.

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said events are an important part of the local community and the funding would allow those affected by flooding to go ahead or be rescheduled.

“The Tourism and Events Queensland 2013 Events Flood Assistance Program (EFAP) will provide financial assistance to events that have suffered as a result of recent flooding,” Mr Hart said.

“A special one-off $150,000 fund has been set up and can be used for expenses including marketing and promotion, engaging specialised services to develop the event or for the hire of temporary infrastructure.

“Events are really important for the Gold Coast community, supporting our businesses and providing the local economy with a boost.”

Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Minister, Jann Stuckey, said events must be held in a council area declared as flood affected by the Natural Disaster Relief Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) since January 2013.

“The EFAP is available for events held between 1 June 2013 and 29 September 2013,” Ms Stuckey said.

“The Newman Government recognises the importance of regional events in supporting Queensland’s tourism industry, local businesses and jobs.”
