Hart Working Hard for Burleigh

Member for Burleigh, Michael Hart MP, is happy to see years of pushing for Caningeraba State School to get their fair share has finally started to pay off.

Today’s State Budget contains a commitment for $490,000 to Caningeraba for additional classrooms and is a win for the local school with one of the largest student enrolments on the Gold Coast.

“I have been working with Ray (Principal) and the Regional department (of education)  since 2013 to see funding for Caningeraba projects delivered and I’m happy to see the school have a small win,” said Mr Hart.

“It’s a much needed starting point for a highly regarded local school delivering excellent educational outcomes and provides an important link to the community with their special education program.”

Caningeraba State School has an over representation of lower socio-economic families and currently provides comprehensive support through school initiatives, external agencies and local community volunteers.

Their Strategic Plan 2014-2018 places strong emphasis on developing an authentic Parent and Community Engagement Program driven by the KidsMatter Framework introduced at Caningeraba in 2013.

“Regrettably though, this commitment by the Labor Government today isn’t going to service their current enrolment numbers and forecasted growth nor does it provide additional support for their special needs enrolment demands.

“This funding ultimately doesn’t fix the issues the school faces as it seemingly only supplies money for planning stages and not the actual building of classrooms for students.

“It’s just another instance of Labor ignoring the Gold Coast and important areas like education and I temper my small sense of victory for Caningeraba with disappointment for the rest of the Burleigh electorate that has once again been left high and dry by the Labor Government.”

“Other important projects like solar powered lighting at the Burleigh Headland, funding commitments towards taking the light rail to Burleigh and most importantly, widening the M1, have all been ignored.”

”Our other local schools have also missed out on their fair share with safety projects that were costed and fully funded under an LNP Government like the drive in drive out facility at Miami High and the fencing and security cameras at Miami Primary discarded.”
