New Walkways for Burleigh Heads State School

Children at Burleigh Heads State School have a safer learning environment after new improved walkways were completed this month.

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said the $10,000 walkways upgrade was completed under the Queensland Government’s Advancing our Schools Maintenance program.

“This maintenance work is vital to keeping our schools running smoothly and providing our students with a vibrant and safe environment to learn in,” Mr Hart said.

“The works undertaken at Burleigh Heads State School include the replacement of 66 rusted panels which were adjacent to various school buildings, including the administration block.”

Minister for Housing and Public Works Tim Mander said his department played an important role in ensuring children had access to safe and suitable school facilities.

“Whether it’s broken glass, peeling paint, damaged ceilings or guttering that is falling down, these maintenance issues can be both an eyesore and a potential health and safety hazard which is why they have to be repaired quickly and to a high standard,” Mr Mander said.

“Labor let Queensland schools fall into disrepair but the LNP Government is committed to fixing the $300 million maintenance black hole which was left behind.

“The Advancing our Schools Maintenance Program is part of the State Government’s strong plan to deliver better infrastructure and would ensure a brighter future for school children and their families.”
