Burleigh Member of Parliament Michael Hart will join over 280 people and several Olympians from around the Burleigh community for the annual Burleigh in Pink breakfast.

The breakfast will kick off a month of activities, including a Gala Dinner, designed to raise awareness and much needed funds for the fight against breast cancer.

Mr Hart said, “Grassroots events like Burleigh in Pink make a real difference, and importantly, make this global issue relevant and tangible at a local level.”

“The money raised by Burleigh in Pink has wonderful impacts, such as researching and creating better therapies, creating a better understanding of possible ways to stop the spread of breast cancer, as well as improving the quality of life for patients and their families,” Mr Hart said.

“Businesses and residents that support and sponsor the event should be very proud of their efforts. The Burleigh in Pink events are almost sold to capacity with bookings well above last year and it is a testament to the dedication of local Burleigh in Pink Chairwoman and Real Estate agent Zeta Thomas and her wonderful committee,” Mr Hart said.”

Zeta Thomas, a breast cancer survivor for 16 years, says a lot of businesses in Burleigh have been affected by the disease.

Her advice to anyone discovering they are among the one in nine Australian women
diagnosed is to stay positive.

"It's a shock at first. You just have to work your way through it and come out the other end. It's not just ladies affected of course, its men, brothers, fathers," said Ms Thomas.

The Burleigh in Pink breakfast will take place at the Burleigh Heads Bowls Club on Monday 8 October 2012 at 6.45.am.
