Real-time to benefit Burleigh passengers

Burleigh residents will soon benefit from the roll out of real time technology on South East Queensland public transport services.

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said real-time technology was a huge win for passengers who would be able to track their buses, trains, ferries and trams with the revolutionary technology.

“The Queensland Government is working hard to improve public transport and boost the local economy as part of our strong plan for a brighter future,” Mr Hart said.

“More than 3,000 new driver console units will be installed on TransLink’s buses, trains and trams by early 2015.

“The units will use GPS and mobile communications to track the exact whereabouts of the services.”

“That means arrival times will be updated every 30 seconds on the TransLink website and passengers will be able to see how far away their services are using their smartphone or computer.”

“Burleigh residents will see real-time technology installed on the public transport network by early 2015.”

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said real-time would bring Queensland to the forefront of advancing technologies and attract even more people onto public transport.

“With real-time, passengers can have an extra cup of coffee with their families knowing exactly where their bus is and know exactly where their train is when finishing work for the day,” Mr Emerson said.

“Previous real-time trials have proven too expensive but working with Cubic we’ve been able to deliver good value for Queensland taxpayers.”

“We’re also supporting small businesses with Brisbane company Queensland Connectors and Cables a major supplier for this project.”
