Two years of delivering for Burleigh

Revitalisation of frontline services has seen Burleigh residents experience shorter hospital and dental waiting times, more police on the beat and better performing schools.

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said the LNP Government’s focus in its first two years had been to deliver better frontline services to Queenslanders and strengthen the state’s economy.

“It was a huge challenge to turn the state around after 20 years of Labor, but after two years of hard work, Queensland is now getting back on track,” Mr Hart said.

“Queensland’s hospital emergency departments are now the best performing in Australia. Elective surgery waiting lists have been slashed and the public dental waiting list has halved.

“Queensland is now a safer place to live with an additional 700 police officers walking the beat.  The crackdown on criminal gangs has seen crime rates across Queensland decline.

“Our $537 million Great Teachers = Great Results policy, rewards our best and brightest teachers to improve skills and outcomes for Queensland kids.

“We’ve also committed an extra $300 million to fixing the school maintenance backlog left by Labor.”

Mr Hart said the LNP Government had a clear plan to supercharge the Queensland economy, boosting the four pillars of resources, tourism, agriculture and construction.

“Queensland is now the leading economy in the nation,” he said.

“The Queensland economy is growing at 4.1 per cent, compared to 1.9 per cent growth across the rest of Australia.

“Our jobs growth is also the strongest in the nation, with 20,000 more Queenslanders in work now than at this time last year.”

Key achievements of the LNP Government in the Burleigh region include:

  • Hosting the Gold Coast Community Cabinet
  • Developing the David Fleay Wildlife Park Draft Master Plan
  • Cracking down on organised crime
  • $3M to fund a police helicopter
  • Over $760,000 to help clear school maintenance backlogs
  • Extended patrol hours at Tallebudgera Creek
  • Funding in excess of $672,000 to local groups including Burleigh Point Outriggers, Burleigh Junior AFL Club, Burleigh Scout Group, Burleigh Cricket Club, Bowls Club

“While a lot has been achieved over the last two years, there is still work to be done,” he said.

“The Newman Government will continue to deliver the best services of any state government in Australia.”
