Bring a Smile to Kids in Care this Christmas

Member for Burleigh, Michael Hart is encouraging people to help bring a smile to the face of an abused or neglected child living away from home by donating towards the Kids in Care Christmas Appeal.

“There are more than 8,000 children and young people living in care this Christmas and it can be a really difficult time of year for some,” Mr Hart said.

“Receiving a gift at Christmas can help brighten their day and let them know that people do care.”

The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services annual Kids in Care Christmas Appeal is being supported by ABC Local Radio.

Mr Hart said hundreds of presents had already been donated across the state.

“We need presents for children aged 0 to 17 years, and ask that they are unwrapped and in a gift bag if possible,” he said.

“People can drop their gift at their local child safety service centre, at the ABC studios in Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts or any Harvey Norman store in Queensland.”

The appeal runs until 14 December and any surplus toys will be distributed to other children known to Child Safety.
