Burleigh Heads Fire Station – Behind Schedule

 

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP has today raised concerns about the partisan politics surrounding the opening of the recently refurbished Burleigh Heads Fire Station.

 

“The LNP leads the way when it comes to giving our firies the tools and infrastructure they need to do their job, that is why we made the investment in the 2014/15 budget to refurbish the Burleigh Heads Fire Station,” Mr Hart said.

 

“This station services the area north to Surfers Paradise, west to the motorway and south to Coolangatta and on average responds to more than 500 incidents in any given year.”

 

Since April 2015 the crew have been displaced and temporarily relocated until the completion of the renovation.

 

“What we’ve seen is the delay in our community being serviced by state of the art facilities because of the bungles attributed to the Palaszczuk Labor Government and the disgraced former Emergency Services Minister Jo-Ann Miller.”

 

“I have heard from the frontline that the station has been ready to utilize since before Christmas.”

 

“I call on the incoming Minister Bill Byrne to come clean with the costs associated with delaying the opening, including any extension of lease to the temporary location, in order to suit his schedule to cut the ribbon.”

 

“I stand ready and willing to cut the ribbon on his behalf so our community can be serviced by the facilities we deserve.”
