Burleigh Heads Proposed Gun Shop

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP advises the community that a material change of use application has been submitted to Council to establish a gun dealership on West Burleigh Road, Burleigh Heads.

A proposal has been put forward to Council to retrospectively change the premises from a warehouse to a shop, to allow the sale of firearms.

“I have reservations about the suitability of this location, within proximity to our iconic beaches and CBD” Mr said.

“I also question the appropriateness of selling firearms in an area that has no firings ranges – I would like to see a decrease in gun ownership on the Gold Coast, not an increase.”

“We are seeing more and more of these types of businesses set up outside of the town planning laws and then retrospectively seeking to alter those regulations to cement their position,” he said.

The comment period for the application MCU201500965 closes on 5 February 2016.

“I encourage those local residents who share my concerns to contact Council on 5582 8211 for further information and to lodge an objection.”

“I will not be supporting this application to protect the unique lifestyle we enjoy in Burleigh.”
