Burleigh locals safer at work
Burleigh workers are staying safer on the job, with new statewide figures showing a significant reduction in workplace related injuries.
Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said the results came on the eve of a new awareness campaign which urged Burleigh locals to think about what’s waiting for them at home after a long day at work.
“The Queensland Government has prioritised worker safety in recent years so it’s pleasing to see such dramatic improvements coming through,” Mr Hart said.
“Over the last two years, fatalities at work have fallen by 21.3 per cent. On top of that, the rate of general workplace injuries is down 8.2 per cent and the serious work-related injury rate has decreased by 6.1 per cent.
“Workplaces in Burleigh and across the state have also seen a 15.2 per cent increase in health and safety inspector visits in the last two years, meaning they’re under closer watch than ever before.
“From this weekend, households in Burleigh will be asked to think about their special reason for staying safe at work with the new ‘Work Safe. Home Safe’ awareness campaign hitting television screens and websites across the state.
“It could be your child, your dog or your yoga class- all that matters is it’s an important reminder to put your safety first.”
Mr Hart said the campaign launches on the eve of the Safe Work Awards and Safe Work Month in October.
“This year we’ve seen a record number of entries in the Safe Work Awards and the standard has been phenomenal,” he said.
“I congratulate all of the finalists and encourage everyone to stop and think about the things that matter most.”
