Burleigh teachers thanked on World Teachers’ Day

 

Teachers across the Gold Coast are being thanked today, as part of World Teachers’ Day celebrations.

 

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said the international day was a great opportunity to recognise the positive impact teachers have on communities.

 

“Teachers across Burleigh make a huge contribution, not only to the children they teach, but to the whole community,” Mr Hart said.

 

“The contribution teachers make should be appreciated each and every day, but World Teachers’ Day is a good chance for everyone to find some way to show their thanks.

 

“Whether it’s simply saying thank you for a job well done, getting the kids to make a special card, or taking a bunch of flowers to your teacher,  I encourage everyone to join with me to thank the wonderful teachers around the Gold Coast today.”

 

Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek joined with Mr Hart in thanking teachers for their efforts across the state at Miami State School this morning.

 

“Teachers across Queensland continue to do an amazing job, and I would like to thank them all for the difference they make to the lives of students around the state,” Mr Langbroek said.

 

“In particular, I congratulate our teachers for starting the smooth introduction of Junior Secondary in state high schools this year and I encourage more primary teachers to consider the move to secondary teaching as we prepare for Year 7 to join high school in 2015.”

 

Mr Langbroek said the Newman Government was investing $535 million of additional funding in the most important piece of Queensland’s education system – the teacher.

 

“Great Teachers = Great Results is a ground-breaking education plan to improve teacher quality and give young Queenslanders the best possible start in life,” he said.

 

“We believe education is central to the economic prosperity of our great state and it creates opportunities for every Queensland student.

 

“None of that is possible without our hardworking, inspiring teachers, so make sure you thank yours today.”

World Teachers’ Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society.

 

Celebrated in more than 100 countries world-wide on October 5, it is marked in Queensland on the last Friday of October due to the school holidays.
