Clear the Air Surrounding Proposed ILS

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP says transparency is a must for the proposed installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Gold Coast Airport.

“I believe that the installation of an Instrument Landing System at Gold Coast Airport would be a vital piece of infrastructure for our growing community, which is why I supported the proposal based on evidence it would complement our lifestyle.”

“But it is important that community concerns are addressed in full during the consultation period, which concludes on 13 July 2015, if the installation is to proceed,” he said.

Mr Hart says he will continue to engage the community on the issue, including at an ‘open house’ forum being conducted at the Burleigh Electorate Office on Monday 29 June from 3-4, which all Burleigh residents are invited to RSVP to.

“I have heard from hundreds of residents with valid concerns, of which 83% do no support the installation without a trial,” Mr Hart said.

Gold Coast Airport have recently confirmed a ‘try before you buy’ trial will not proceed, subsequently Mr Hart has written to Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss on the matter urging a trial of the flight path before any decision is made.

“If Air Services Australia and Gold Coast Airport have nothing to hide, then there is no reason a trial should not proceed,” he said.

Mr Hart’s position has remained unchanged since the Draft Major Development Plan was released and wholly supports the installation on the basis a trial is conducted.
