Congratulations to Some, Shame on Others

Member for Burleigh, Michael Hart MP would like to extend his gratitude to those who assisted in the release of the beached whale at Palm Beach earlier this morning.

“Over the last two days I have seen some passionate and professional people work collaboratively to ensure the young whale had the best shot at survival.”

Mr Hart spent the last two days on site ensuring officers of State Government Departments had the resources on the ground to effectively and efficiently deal with the delicate situation.

“I had the support of Premier Campbell Newman to deal with the situation and ensure that Labor’s legacy of green tape did not stop officers from acting swiftly,” Mr Hart said.

Unfortunately operations were hindered by green groups, including Sea Shepherd, who overnight did not observe official direction and entered the water to take the rescue into their own hands.

“Environmental activists disobeyed official direction and as a result created a situation where the infant whale had undue stress while also putting themselves and others at risk.”

Mr Hart said experienced professionals know best when it comes to these situations and it is best to leave them to do their job.

Organisations involved:

  • Queensland Ambulance Service
  • Queensland Police Service
  • National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing
  • City of Gold Coast
