Construction of the new Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters on track to open in late 2014
The development of the new $55 million Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters is currently on schedule with H Troon appointed to complete the project.
Bunnings Chief Operating Officer, Peter Davis, said it was exciting to see the new store progressing.
“The new larger Warehouse will replace the existing Burleigh Heads store which opened in 1998 and was the first Bunnings in Queensland,” Mr Davis said, “All current team members will transfer to the new Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters, taking the total team to over 250 team members.”
“In terms of the build, external concrete slabs for the perimeter of the main warehouse are well underway and concrete panels and structural steelworks have been erected for the timber trade sales area, work has also begun on the carpark ground slabs.”
The new Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters joins four existing Gold Coast Warehouses at Oxenford, Nerang, Arundel, and Southport and State Member for Burleigh Mr Michael Hart MP said the development is good news for local residents.
“The new Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters will create over 660 jobs both through team member employment and through the construction process, representing great employment opportunities for local residents,” Mr Michael Hart MP said.
“With over four Bunnings already within the City of Gold Coast area at Oxenford, Nerang, Arundel, and Southport, it’s pleasing to see Bunnings directly investing in the local economy.”
More than 250 team members will be employed at Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters and around 410 jobs will be created through the construction process.
Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters will have an approximate total store size of 15,000 square metres, ensuring an even wider range of products for local customers. The development will include a main warehouse, indoor timber trade sales area, building materials and landscape supplies yard and outdoor nursery, as well as an indoor playground, café and a number of kitchen, laundry and bathroom displays.
“The new Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters has been designed specifically to suit the needs of the area and includes undercover parking with approximately 550 car parks, with the warehouse sitting on the first floor above,” Mr Davis said.
“Customers will also benefit from a tool shop, the widest range of barbecues and outdoor settings, plus other features including a special orders desk,” Mr Davis concluded
In line with Bunnings’ commitment to sustainability Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters will implement a number of energy and water saving design features, including the installation of a water harvesting system which will collect rainwater in underground tanks that will be used to flush toilets and irrigate the nursery plants. The nursery runoff water will also be collected to irrigate the site landscape areas.
In addition, LED lighting will be fitted in the nursery, bagged goods canopy and car park to reduce energy consumption and a solar hot water system will be installed.
Bunnings Warehouse Burleigh Waters will offer a wide range of leading Australian brands and products along with specialised trade supplies to meet the community’s needs, as well as stock a wide range of products to help customers live sustainably by reducing their energy, water and waste consumption.
