Policing on the Gold Coast is headed to the digital beat with Police Minister Jack Dempsey launching the myPolice blog.

Mr Dempsey said the Gold Coast is Queensland’s fourth region to receive the community-tailored blog following successes in Dutton Park, Maryborough and Cairns.

“Engaging with the community is one of the most important aspects of being a police officer,” Mr Dempsey said.

“myPolice Gold Coast allows officers to interact with people who may not have time to go to a Neighbourhood Watch meeting or drop into the station to voice concerns.

“This blog provides opportunities for officers to share information on staying safe, keeping their property secure or to show comfit images of suspects to a wider audience.

“myPolice Gold Coast is also a step forward in ensuring the region’s many visitors are safe and enjoy their stay by providing them with important crime prevention tips and information.”

South Eastern Region Assis tant Commissioner Graham Rynders said the launch of myPolice Gold Coast offered new opportunities for modern day policing for the District.

“This technology provides exciting new opportunities for our dedicated officers to connect with the community,” Assistant Commissioner Rynders said.

“Gold Coast police work hard to address crime in the community, as well as managing the major events that are held regularly in the area such as the Gold Coast Marathon and Schoolies festivities.

“This blog provides a platform not only for local residents to engage with police and find out what is happening, but also for visitors to find out about their new surroundings.

“Public awareness regarding crime and personal safety is a key element of policing the Coast, and this blog provides another platform for the QPS to forge these relationships.

“The QPS has seen the willingness for the community to engage and communicate with officers through the use of social media, and myPolice Gold Coast is a way for local officers to do that.”
