Hart Welcomes Trumpeting Support for Fanfare

Mr Hart said Australian jazz music legend James Morrison, who is also serving as Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival, had thrown his weight behind sourcing $88,000 in private sponsorship for the festival.

 

James Morrison joined Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek to call for private enterprise to sponsor the program, while the State Government works on getting the State’s budget back on track.

 

“The LNP Government has had to make some very hard decisions since March in order to address the $65 billion debt left by the previous government, which will grow to $100 billion if nothing is done,” Mr Hart said.

 

“This included ceasing funding for Fanfare, a biennial music festival for Queensland State school bands and orchestras.

 

“It is great to see the Government is now looking at innovative ways to fund events like Fanfare, such as a public/private partnership.

 

“Already some possible supporters have come forward, and if we can secure sponsorship Fanfare will continue stronger than ever in two years’ time.”

 

Mr Hart said under the proposal, the Department of Education, Training and Employment would provide the coordination and private enterprise would provide the necessary funding.

 

“We’ve listened to local residents and with the support of one our greatest musicians James Morrison, we’re going to work hard to do what we can to bring back Fanfare.”

 

This year’s Fanfare event will be held at QPAC on Tuesday, 31 July until Thursday, 2 August.
