Labor finally found time for Burleigh firies

After including the already completed Burleigh Fire Station in their State Infrastructure Plan, the Palaszczuk Labor Government finally found the time to officially open the facility yesterday.

This is despite the facility being occupied and open since January after a push from local member Michael Hart.

The member for Burleigh heard from the frontline in January the station had been ready to utilize since before Christmas and crews were ready to get settled after being displaced since April 2015.

“What we’ve seen is first the delay in our community being serviced by state of the art facilities because of the bungles attributed to the Palaszczuk Labor Government and the disgraced former Emergency Services Minister Jo-Ann Miller.’

‘This followed by the opening of the station delayed by over three months by Minister Bill Byrne in order to suit his schedule to cut the ribbon.’

‘It’s simply not good enough and the Government shouldn’t be playing politics with our frontline services and their needs,” said Mr Hart

The LNP leads the way when it comes to giving our firies the tools and infrastructure they need to do their job, that is why they made the investment in the 2014/15 budget to refurbish the Burleigh Heads Fire Station.

This station services the area north to Surfers Paradise, west to the motorway and south to Coolangatta and on average responds to more than 500 incidents in any given year.

“Once again the Palaszczuk Labor Government have demonstrated the Gold Coast and our frontline services are not a priority.”
