Labor hangs out welcome mat to bikies in Burleigh

Member for Burleigh, Michael Hart,  is hearing disturbing  reports this morning that 40+ bikes roared through the main Street of Burleigh, James St, early yesterday afternoon in a show of force following Annastacia Palaszczuk’s weakening of Queensland’s strong anti association laws.

Mr Hart said under the LNP laws more than 3 declared members of a criminal gang were not able to gather in a public place but under Labors changes to the laws that can be flouted by simply not wearing colours.

“The reports I have received indicated the large group of rides intimated traffic, broke road rules, revving their bikes and making as much noise  as possible to tell the people of the Gold Coast “we are back”” said Mr Hart.

“Labor’s watering down of strong the LNP laws puts all of us at risk and after closing down two known clubhouses in the Burleigh electorate, locals have no desire to see them back.”

Local businesses fear a return of the bikies could put Burleigh’s reputation as the Gold Coast’s place to dine at risk and don’t want to see a repeat of the Broadbeach bikie brawl locally.

I acknowledge the Gold Coast Bulletin’s report that the bikies were taking part in a charity ride but as shown in the video, they had no regard for road rules and red lights and left local businesses and residents feeling intimidated and fearful for their safety.
