Labor VLAD Review a Sham

 

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP has today slammed Labor’s predetermined review into the VLAD legislation that is keeping the Gold Coast community safe.

 

“A close look at the terms of reference for Labor’s taskforce show it’s a closed shop with a pre-determined outcome to ditch the laws. It is outlined that the taskforce must advise how best to repeal, or replace the laws by substantial amendment.”

 

Mr Hart said that any changes to the VLAD legislation, including the watering down, would be to the detriment of the Gold Coast and benefit of criminals.

 

“There’s no scope in the terms of reference in this enquiry for the Mum and Dads of Burleigh to get their say. The only people that will have a say are the criminals who have been affected by these laws.”

 

Mr Hart said that it is now clear that the entire enquiry is a sham.

 

“The outcome is predetermined, the government has made up its mind, it is going to repeal or water down this legislation and that is to the detriment of the people of the Gold Coast.”

 

A survey of the Burleigh electorate indicated 82% of residents believed the laws are working well as is.
