Media statement from LNP Shadow Housing Minister Michael Hart on combustible cladding ban

Wednesday, July 3, 2019

“The LNP supports the banning of aluminium composite panels containing more than 30 per cent PE to new buildings in Queensland,” Mr Hart said.

“We don’t support Minister Mick de Brenni’s call for a complete ban on the importation of all aluminium panels with a PE core because these panels are suitable in specific circumstances such as signage.

“This is clearly an attempt by the Minister to shift blame.

“The regulation of building products is a matter for state governments and therefore Minister de Brenni and his Labor Government have allowed this issue to fester.

“Queensland home owners and unit owners will pay the price for the Labor Government’s incompetence.

“The LNP remains concerned about the last-minute response from the Minister – it’s merely a temporary arrangement to allow more time to find a way through this mess.

“Meanwhile, the building industry, certifiers, and unit owners remain in a state of uncertainty.”
