MR M HART ASKED THE MINISTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE GREAT BARRIER REEF AND MINISTER FOR SCIENCE AND YOUTH AFFAIRS
(HON M SCANLON)—
QUESTION:
With reference to the closure of the Oceanview Walking Track at Burleigh Head
National Park—
Will the Minister provide (a) details of the remediation works needed, (b) a timeline
of required remediation works, (c) projected costings and (d) an expected date for the
re-opening of the track?
ANSWER:
I thank the Member for the question.
The work required to remediate the landslide impacting the Oceanview track in
Burleigh Head National Park includes:
• geotechnical assessment;
• scaling and removing several boulders and any other loose debris above the
walking track;
• clearing debris from the walking track; and
• repairing damaged sections to the walking track, handrail and fence.
The works have commenced and will be finalised soon. The works will be met within
the Department of Environment and Science’s existing maintenance budget.
It is anticipated the track will reopen before the end of May 2021 assuming favourable
dry weather and no unforeseen geotechnical issues being unearthed.
