QUESTION:
With reference to the Gold Coast Recreation Centre—
Will the Minister advise (a) if the planned expansion will include new or
upgraded squash court facilities and (b) if there have been any changes to
existing squash facilities at the centre in the last five years?

ANSWER:
The $7.3 million redevelopment of the leisure centre at the Gold Coast
Recreation Centre includes two indoor multipurpose courts, gymnasium,
changerooms, public amenities and office space for Surfing Queensland.
The project is currently under construction and due for completion by
September 2021. The office accommodation for Surfing Queensland was
completed in February 2021.
There have been no changes to the existing facilities within the leisure centre
in the five years prior to the redevelopment.
The single existing squash court at the centre was temporarily closed on
2 November 2020 due to shortage of storage as a result of the redevelopment
works.
The future of the squash court beyond completion of the redevelopment is still
to be determined.
