Seahorse Disabled Children’s Program to hit Gold Coast Beaches

 

North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club is set to introduce a first for Gold Coast beaches, a Surf Life Saving program designed specifically for disabled children.

 

The Seahorse Nipper Pilot Program will be held at North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club this Saturday the 8^th of November from 9:30am until 10:30am.

 

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said the program would enable children who wouldn’t normally be able to participate in a regular Nippers Surf Life Saving program the ability to participate in the structured program with a qualified surf life saver.

 

“The Seahorse Nippers program has been run successfully at Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club for the past two and a half seasons and they are working with North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club to bring their expertise to the Coast,” Mr Hart said.

 

Ms Alena Smith, a Coordinator of North Burleigh SLSC said representatives from the Club have been participating in this seasons Seahorse Nipper Program up at Noosa Heads to prepare for their own pilot program.  

“Being there with the children in Noosa was an amazing experience and participants had smiles from ear to ear regardless of their disabilities,” Ms Smith said.

 

“I cannot wait to bring that joy to the children here on the Gold Coast” she said.

 

Mr Hart is supporting the initiative by bringing the Assistant Minister for Child Safety to the launch.
