Member for Burleigh Michael Hart is reminding all sport and recreation clubs that time is almost up to apply for funding in the first round of the Newman Government’s Get in the Game initiative.

Mr Hart said the sign-up period for the initial Get Going and Get Playing components of the grassroots sporting program would close on 1 December.

“Already more than 25 clubs in Burleigh have applied to be registered for the Get Started voucher program for young people, which is a fantastic result,” Mr Hart said.

“This is a great response which underscores the positive feedback received so far from local clubs, who say the program will benefit their members and help them provide better services.”

“I want sport and recreation clubs throughout Burleigh to see what these programs have to offer to improve their clubs and attract new members.

“This grassroots sporting initiative is another way the Newman Government is helping to ease the cost of living for Queensland families.”

Sport and Recreation Minister Steve Dickson said Get in the Game consisted of three funding programs worth $18 million over three years.

“Get Started will provide more than 40,000 vouchers worth up to $150 to help with the cost of registration fees for children who are least able to afford it, or would otherwise benefit from joining a sporting club,” Mr Dickson said.

“Get Going will see $10,000 grants paid directly to local sporting clubs to help them grow through the purchasing of new sporting equipment or promoting new membership initiatives.

“And the Get Playing program will provide $100,000 grants for clubs to upgrade or replace existing facilities and infrastructure.”

Applications for Get Started vouchers will officially open in January 2013.

“We look forward to working with clubs throughout the state to ensure Queenslanders have access to sporting and recreational opportunities and facilities wherever they live,” Mr Dickson said.
